The fastest way to learn Norwegian

These Norwegian flashcards are built for English speakers. Every card shows a Norwegian word chosen by real-world frequency, so you always study the vocabulary you will actually hear, read and use — explained in English.

Listen to native Norwegian pronunciation on every card, reveal the English translation, and mark whether you knew it. Cards you miss come back round after round until the whole Norwegian vocabulary is yours.

What's inside the Norwegian course

The course contains 10,200 cards: the 10,000 most frequent Norwegian words — from the very first words every Norwegian speaker uses daily down to the rich vocabulary of books and newspapers — plus 200 everyday expressions and idioms that make you sound natural.

Each card shows the Norwegian word, plays its pronunciation, and reveals the English translation when you're ready. More than 1,000 cards also include a small picture hint that helps anchor the word in your memory.

How it works

📈

Frequency first

Cards are ordered by how often Norwegian words are really used, so every minute of study pays off from day one.

🔊

Native audio

Every card is spoken aloud in Norwegian, so your ears learn as fast as your eyes.

🔁

Smart rounds

Missed a card? It comes back next round — and only the ones you missed. Repeat until nothing is left.

💬

Real phrases

Beyond single words: 200 everyday Norwegian expressions and idioms round out the course.

How a study session works

1. Listen and think

A Norwegian word appears and is read aloud. Take a second and try to recall what it means before revealing anything.

2. Reveal the answer

Tap the card or press Space to see the English translation. Comparing your guess with the answer is where the learning happens.

3. Grade yourself

Mark ✓ if you knew it or ✗ if you didn't — with a tap or the arrow keys. Be honest: your answer decides what comes back in the next round.

4. Repeat what you missed

When the round ends, only the cards you missed come back. Rounds get smaller and smaller until nothing is left — that's when the vocabulary is truly yours.

Your progress is saved automatically in your browser, so you can close the page and continue any time. On a keyboard: Space reveals the answer, → means known, ← means missed, R replays the audio.

Why frequency order beats everything else

In every language a small number of words does most of the work: the 1,000 most common Norwegian words cover roughly 85% of everyday speech, and the top 10,000 take you to near-complete understanding of conversations, films and articles.

That's why these flashcards follow strict frequency order. Instead of memorizing rare words you may never meet, you invest every minute in the Norwegian vocabulary with the highest payoff — from day one to fluency.

Tips for learning Norwegian faster

📅

Make it a daily habit

Ten to fifteen minutes a day beats a two-hour session once a week. Little and often is how vocabulary sticks.

🗣️

Say every word out loud

Repeat after the audio. Speaking activates a second memory path and trains your pronunciation at the same time.

Trust the ✗ button

Marking a card as missed is not failure — it schedules exactly the repetition you need. The more honest you are, the faster you learn.

🌙

Come back tomorrow

Words you learned yesterday fade unless you meet them again. Regular rounds refresh your memory just before you'd forget.
